A couple years ago, back when I still played Yu-Gi-Oh!, I've played fun matches against a friend of mine. Against his Pokémon deck.
Now, I know what you're thinking... those two games aren't even compatible! And you're right. Normally, they're not. So we made a couple change in rules and rulings to make the matches work. Here's what we did:- The player with the Yu-Gi-Oh! Deck must add or remove cards until the Deck has exactly 60 cards. The Pokémon player doesn't need to edit their Deck.
- After the Decks have been shuffled, both players (the Pokémon player AND the Yu-Gi-Oh player) place the top 6 cards of their Decks to their left to serve as Prize cards. Also, both players start with an agreed amount of Life Points (usually 8000).
The Pokémon player will not lose the game if they run out of Pokémon
- The Pokémon Deck user may play as many Energy cards and Supporter cards as they can from their hand (no one per turn limit). However, the Yu-Gi-Oh! Deck user may still not play more than one monster per turn - like in the regular card game.
- Because Pokémon need Energy to use one of their attacks, Monster Cards are unallowed to attack until the End Phase of the controller's turn when they're Summoned in any way.
- Pokémon and Monster Cards are treated alike, as well as Energy cards and Spell/Trap cards (for the purpose of cards like Energy Removal or Mystical Space Typhoon). Stadium cards are also counted as Field Spell cards and vice-versa.
The Pokémon player's Discard Pile is also counted as the Graveyard, and vice-versa. Evolving a Pokémon counts as a Tribute Summon, and vice-versa. An Xyz Summon, Synchro Summon or Fusion Summon is also counted as Evolving. Playing a Pokémon by means of another card is treated as a Special Summon. Other standard individual game rules still apply (Evolving, Tributing, Special Summoning, etc).
- Players may agree if Pokémon Weaknesses and Resistances still apply. I've done this as follows:
EARTH/Rock/Warrior = Fighting FIRE/Pyro = Fire Plant/"Naturia" = Grass Thunder = Lightning Psychic = Psychic WATER/Aqua/Fish/Sea Serpent = Water DARK/Fiend = Darkness Machine = Metal
If a Duel Monster has any of the above Types and/or Attributes, its Pokémon Type is treated as the one listed next to it.
- Because Yu-Gi-Oh! Monster Cards have very high ATK and DEF values, they have to be souped down a bit for battles against Pokémon.
For ATK, I've done it like this: ATK/100 /Level+(Levelx10), rounded up or down to nearest 10. In other words, Krebons (Level 2 monster with 1200 ATK) would have 1200/100=12 /2 = 6 +(2x10=)20=26 ATK. The nearest 10 to 26 is 30, so its ATK in such a duel is 30.
A Duel Monster's HP is based its DEF/10. In other words, Krebons (400 DEF) would have 40 HP.
- For purpose of cards that check a monster's Stats (ATK, DEF or Level), treat a Pokémon's highest possible damage as its ATK and its HP as its DEF. However, cards that would destroy Monster Cards shouldn't destroy a Pokémon card right away - that would be unfair. Instead, deal damage to the affected Pokémon equal to the ATK of a monster you control or in your Graveyard.
In other words, if you play Smashing Ground and select a Krebons you control, it would deal 30 damage to the Pokémon with the most HP. And that's pretty much it for now... |
